Discribe the landscape:

The Greeks founded colonies. A place outside Greece where they could grow crops. They shipped the food to the parent cities.

City-states

• The Greek cities grew more powerful.
• Cities had their own coins, armies and laws. 
• An independent city is called a polis or city-state.
