Mastering Times Tables 1–10: Patterns and Songs

What do you already know about times tables and their patterns?

Learning Objective

At the end of the lesson you will know the 1–10 times tables, understand factors, spot patterns, and learn songs to help remember them.

What Are Times Tables?

Times tables are lists of multiplication facts that help us solve maths problems quickly.

Why Learn Times Tables?

Knowing times tables helps with multiplication, division, and makes maths easier!

What Are Factors?

A factor is a number you can multiply with another to get a certain product. For example, 2 and 3 are factors of 6.

1 Times Table

Every number times 1 is itself. Easy to remember!

2 Times Table

Multiples of 2 are always even numbers. 2, 4, 6, 8, and so on.

3 Times Table

Count in threes: 3, 6, 9, 12, 15 – notice the pattern increases by 3.

4 Times Table

You can double the 2 times table to get the 4 times table!

5 Times Table

Always ends in 0 or 5: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and so on.

6 Times Table

The 6 times table can be built using the 5 times table + the number itself.

7 Times Table

The 7 times table is trickier—try grouping or using songs to remember.

8 Times Table

Double the 4 times table or add 8 each time: 8, 16, 24, 32.

9 Times Table

Try the finger trick! The digits in the products add up to 9.

10 Times Table

The simplest! Just add a zero: 10, 20, 30, and so on.

Spotting Patterns in Times Tables

2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 always give even answers.

5 and 10 times tables have patterns in the ending digits.
