Directional Root Words

• Directional terms are used to map the are of the body

• Anterior or ventral = front of body, or towards the front

• Posterior or dorsal = rear part of the body or towards the back

• Superior or cranial = upper. It pertains to a position which is higher than or above a body part

• Caudal = tail = inferior

• Lateral = at the side of or toward the side of the body

• Medial = middle or towards the middle of the body
