At the end of the lesson you will be able to provide specific, criteria-linked feedback on source analysis responses and write an extended response to an exam-style question.

Starter: Command Words Kahoot

Understanding Message & Purpose

The message is the main idea or viewpoint communicated; the purpose is why the source was created. Let's examine question 1 and model strong answers.

What Makes Feedback Useful?

Feedback must be specific, linked to criteria and improvement-focused.

I will now review strong and weak sample responses and discuss effective feedback.

How to improve feedback.

Activity:

• Show  student examples of feedback

• As a class, improve them together:

  • Make vague comments more specific

  • Add criteria language

Example:

• From: “Explain more”

• To: “Explain the purpose by identifying the intended audience and why the government wanted to influence them.”

Peer feedback

You will now give your response to a partner and they will provide feedback to you, using a feedback sheet.

Peer Review: Getting Better at Feedback

Rewrite your answer for question 1 using peer and my feedback to improve it.

Peer feedback round 2

Students:

• Return to their partner OR switch partners

• Rewrite/improve their feedback using what they learned

Emphasis: They are now improving their feedback quality, not just the answer.

Students to complete the following question under test conditions: (55 minutes)
