  • Founded in 1602.
  • To control prices of the spices, and to make it more safe to travel.
  • They were managed by the "lords seventeen".
  • The States Genaral gave the VOC privileges. Rights only the VOC had like:
  1. Monopoly on trade in Asia.
  2. Wage war against other countries.
  3. Make diplomatic deals.
  4. Establish colonies.
