What are we going to study today?
Today we are going to learn:
What sexual reproduction is.
How sex cells are made.
How fertilization can occur in animals.

Slide 4 - Tekstslide

Sexual reproduction
Sexual reproduction requires 2 sex cells, one male and one female. Because of the sex cells, there is always a difference between the parent and the child.

Slide 5 - Tekstslide

Cell division
Normally, during cell division, all chromosomes (strands of DNA in the cell nucleus) are copied and moved to a new cell.

Slide 6 - Tekstslide

Sex cells
The making of sex cells happens in almost the same way. The big difference is that not all chromosomes are copied and transferred, but half only half of them. This is also called meiosis.

Slide 7 - Tekstslide

Fertilization
The fusion of the two sex cells is called fertilization. This occurs in different ways. When the egg is fertilized outside the body, this is called external fertilization. This occurs frequently in fish.

Slide 8 - Tekstslide

Slide 9 - Video

Fertilization
When fertilization occurs inside a body, it is called internal fertilization. This occurs in many land animals. For this, animals must mate.
