Greet the students and introduce the K-Piano equipment and learning system.
Provide an overview of the lesson objectives and what students can expect to learn.

Vocal Exploration (3min)
"What is this a picture of?"
An elevator
"What does an elevator do?"
It moves people up and down in buildings
"I want you to point at the elevator. Use your finger and your voice to show the elevator is moving up."
Students move finger from low to high while making a siren sound going from low to high
"Now use your finger and voice to show the elevator is moving down."
Students move finger from high to low while making siren sound going from high to low
Try different combinations at various speeds. Make it fun!

Rhythm Echoes

Invite students to pick a place to show a steady beat on their body. Instructor chooses one example.
"Keep your steady beat and echo me."
Instructor reads rhythms four beats at a time using neutral syllable "bah."
Read rhythms using rhythm syllables (quarter note = ta, quarter rest = no sound, eighth notes = ta-ti, sixteenth notes = ta-ka-ti-ki; refer to rhythm syllable cheat sheet if needed)
Students echo.
Challenge time! Remember, I say 'bah.' You say..."
Ta and ta-ti.
Instructor reads rhythms a third time, 4 beats at a time using neutral syllable "bah" while students echo using rhythm syllables "ta," "ta-ti," and "ta-ka-ti-ki."

"Time for our challenge! Remember, I am going to sing 'bum.' You sing sol and mi. However, this time, I will not be helping you with the body piano. I want you to see if you can figure it out yourself."
Students echo using solfege and body piano.

Hand Signs
"Let's use sol and mi again, but this time, I am going to show you our secreat musician hand signs! I want you to make the same hand sign as me. Remember to use both hands!"
Instructor uses hand sign for sol. Instructor sings, "sol, sol, sol" while showing hand sign for each one.

"Now try this one."
Instructor uses hand sign for mi and sings, "mi, mi, mi."
Students echo.

Instructor gives starting pitch. Students sing.
"This time, I want you to sing the song using rhythm syllables. Remember, rhythm syllables are ta, ta-ti, and ta-ka-ti-ki."
Instructor gives starting pitch.
Students sing using rhythm syllables. Assess for accuracy before moving on.
"This time, I want you to sing the song again using rhythm syllables, but I also want you to tap the rhythm on your lap. Make sure to tap softly. If you are hurting, that means you are tapping too hard! Make sure to keep yourself and other safe."
Instructor gives starting pitch. Students sing using rhythm syllables while tapping rhythm on laps.
"Now let's take out or xylophones."
Review how to set up xylophones.
"Sing the song again using rhythm syllables, but this time, I want you to tap the rhythm on your xylophones with your right hand pointer finger."
