The decolonisation caused the formation of independent monarchies and republics in the Middle East and North Africa. Nearly all these states have an Arab culture with Islam as its main religion. Exceptions are the Jewish Israel and the two Islamic non-Arab states that had been independent for longer; Turkey and Iran.
