Explanation: colonies
During dutch history the Netherlands had conquered territories across the sea. These were the dutch indies, the Antillen and Suriname.

The dutch indies became independed as Indonesia in 1949.

In 1954 dutch Queen Juliana signed the ''Charter for the kingdom of the Netherlands''. Suriname and the dutch Antillen would get their own government and parliament but were still part of the kingdom of the Netherlands.

In 1975 cabinet Den-Uyl agreed that Suriname would be independed.

Later Aruba,  Sint Maarten and Curacao would became independed countries with the kingdom of the Netherlands.

Saba, Bonaire and St. Eustatius are still dutch oversea municipaties.

Explanation: Suriname
In 1973 Henck Arron was prime minister of Suriname. 
He and his political party ''NPS'' wanted to negotiate independence with the dutch government. In 1975 Suriname became independed but a third of the Suriname population moved to the Netherlands. They were afriad of economic decline and that the Creols (Black Surinams) would come to power.

After that Suriname became independed, the economy started to decline.

In 1980 Desi bouterse staged a coup and took power of Suriname. Suriname became a dictatorship.

In 1992 both men signed a peace treaty with the government of Suriname. Suriname was a democracy again.
