Slide 4 - Open vraag

Why?
All Early Years settings have a legal requirement to keep children healthy and safe,.
  • Supervision: Keeping a close eye on children to ensure they are safe when engaging in any activity. To ensure activity is appropriate, there are no chocking hazards and the environment is safe.
  • supervision must always be in sight, physically being able to hear and see the children.

Adult and Child Ratios
All Early Years provisions should adhere to the correct ratios in order to meet the requirements of the Early Years Foundation stage (2023).

1:3 (0 - 2 years)
1:5 (2 -3 years) – This changed in 2023
1:8 (children aged 3 +)
1:13 (children aged 3+ ) – If members of staff hold a QTS or Level 6.

Role Modelling Safe Behaviour
As a practitioner it is essential you role model good behaviour, children often observe and copy most actions by adults.

Ever heard of the saying 'Children are like sponges?'
Children love to act like the adult, teaching them safe behaviour and role modelling how to do it can often lead to very positive effects.

For example: Asking child A to pick up a piece of paper and put it in the bin to prevent someone from falling.

Registers and headcounts
It is a safeguarding requirement of the EYFS 2023 to ensure registers and headcounts are maintained during intervals of the day. Registers also ensure ratio's are met.

If there was an evacuation procedure or a safeguarding concern, the practitioner will need to have accurate information of how many children they have and if they are all present.

This ensures no child is left at risk.
