CAE listening
Listening exercises fall into 4 different parts when it comes to listening at  CAE level.  In your Objective Advanced book 4 different types of exercises will be used. In short, they include:
- multiple choice questions
- sentence completion
- multiple matching

The exercises mostly involve: discussions, conversations, monologues, interviews, documentaries, radio broadcasts, news, and anecdotes.

Part 1
Part 1 is always about multiple choice questions
There are 3 separate extracts which you will hear, mostly with 2 or 3 people speaking.
There are 2 questions per extract.
Each extract will be repeated, so you can skip questions that you find difficult. You can do them the second time you hear them.

It tests your ability to listen to short dialogues and show understanding of gist, detail, function, agreement and course of action, as well as the speaker's purpose, feelings, attitudes and opinions.

Part 2
There will be gapped sentences where you must fill in the missing word/phrase. Fill in exactly what you hear. You must fill in 1-3 words.
It is usually a monologue, which means you hear only 1 person speaking.
The gaps are in order and thus follow the extract.
The extract will be repeated so if you haven't exactly caught the word or phrase the first time around, you can skip it and try again on the second time listening.

You are tested on your ability to listen for main ideas/specific information and so you are asked to demonstrate your understanding of the extract by completing the gaps.

Make sure your spelling is correct!

Part 3
In this part, you will hear a conversation between two or more speakers. You then have to answer 6 multiple choice questions.
The extract is usually around 3-4 minutes in length.

This tests your ability to understand longer passages, like interviews or discussions, as well as attitudes and opinions.
Make sure you learn to recognize where a conversation turns from one idea to another

The extract will be repeated, so you can skip questions that you find difficult. You can do them the second time you hear the extract.

Part 4
This part involves multiple matching. You will hear 5 short monologues and there will be 2 questions for each of them.
The extracts contain spontanious, informal speech and are done by speakers with different backgrounds and accents. They will all speak about one particular topic, which is mentioned in the instructions. It's about understanding the main idea, opinion or attitude of the speaker.
For each part, you need to match the speaker with an answer. There will be more answers than speakers.

The extracts will be repeated so if you haven't exactly figured out who matches with an answer, you can figure it out the second time around.
