• Known for their warrior culture= fighting was normal for them.

• Lord= ruler such as a king or a count.
• Vassal= follower of a lord.
• In halls (buildings for large groups) lords and vassals ate, drank, and made decisions.

• Charles Martel defeated the Frisians in battle.

• Most powerful Frankish ruler.
• Nickname= Father of Europe.
• Was crowned Emperor by the pope in 800 AD.
