- something happened in the past & IS FINISHED

- verb + ed

I walked to school yesterday

- irregular verbs: different per verb (2nd)

I went to the cinema on friday.

Present Perfect

- When something started in the past & IS STILL GOING ON

- have/has + verb + ed

We have decided to be vegetarian.

- have/has + irregular verb (3rd)

They have kept their promise for years.
