Sadako Haiku
A haiku is a Japanese form of poem that has very strict rules.

Each line of the poem must have a certain number of syllables.

The first line has 5
The second line has 7
The third line has 5

What is a syllable again?
A syllable is a beat of a word. Sometimes we clap to find how many syllables are in a word. For instance, the word watermelon. Clap for every beat you here: Wa\ter\mel\on... So watermelon has 4 syllables!

One Pager


Remember, every one pager needs to have the following:

  • Title and Author (Eleanor Coerr) 
  • Description of a main character 
  • At least one main image or scene from the book
  • More, small visual images (drawings, pictures, etc.)
  • At least one question you have about the book
  • A lesson or theme from the book
  • At least one symbol that was important to the story. Explain in words what the symbol means.

Paper Cranes
Write something on a piece of paper (a wish, a thought about the book, a fear, etc.) and then fold it into a paper crane. You can even string them up by your window if you like!
