this is the idea that some countries are the centre, often the western world and  former colonizers.
and countries that were colonised are the margin, often the non western countries, Asia

the concept of centre and margin could only begin when people decide that other people are not the same
e.g. people in Africa do not have the same culture, values etc. as we have, meaning they are savage and we are civilised.
