Food molecules
Food is made out of molecules. 
Nutrients are food molecules. 

There are seven types of nutrients:
  • Carbohydrates
  • Proteins
  • Lipids
  • Minerals
  • Vitamins
  • Water
  • Fiber

Carbohydrates
Carbohydrates are for building and energy.

Sugars are small carbohydrates (glucose)
Starches are large carbohydrates

Good sources:
Grains, pasta, fruits, honey

Proteins
Proteins are for building, because cells are built out of proteins

Proteins are built out of amino acids

Good sources:
Meat, fish, eggs, beans

Lipids
Lipids are fats and they are used for energy.

Lipids contain twice as much energy as carbohydrates.
They are used for energy storage.

Good sources:
Oils, butter, fried food

Minerals
Minerals we only need in small amounts and help to keep us healthy

Examples are calcium for strong bones and iron for your red blood cells.

Good sources:
Iron: red meat
Calcium: dairy products

They are named after letters.

Good sources:
Vit A: carrots, eggs
Vit C: citrus fruits
