Slide 1 - Tekstslide

Grammar
Look at these words, what do you notice?
- communication - miscommunication
- turned - returned
- like - dislike

What is the difference? What does it mean?

Slide 2 - Tekstslide

What are prefixes and suffixes?
They create new words by changing the "root" word.

For example the word: employed, what does this mean?
employed + UN = unemployed - it becomes negative
happy + un = unhappy
like + dis = dislike

Slide 3 - Tekstslide

Prefixes
A prefix is a word part added to the beginning of a root word.
PREFIXES like: DIS/IN/IM/IR/UN/IL/MIS are used to give an opposite/negative meaning to a word.

• Take turns. When it is your turn, you can choose a random square and translate the Dutch word into English. If your classmate agrees that the translation is correct, you can colour the square in your own colour.
• The game ends when one of the players has coloured 4 squares in a row, either horizontally, vertically or diagonally.
