Prefixes + Suffixes

They both change the meaning of the word.

Prefixes are letters you can place before a word. 

Suffixes are letters that go at the end of a word.

Prefixes

• non- / un- / im- / il- / in- / ir- 
• Gebruik je om een tegenovergestelde betekenis te geven. 

1. Unwelcome = niet  welkom
2. Incomplete = niet compleet
3. Impossible = niet mogelijk

The following prefixes all mean ‘not’ or ‘the opposite’: 

non- / un- / im- / il- / in- / ir- / dis-.

sense, used, possible, legal, compatible, responsible, appear

nonsense, unused, impossible, illegal, incompatible, irresponsible, disappear

Werkwoord naar zelfstandig naamwoord:  

Met -er: degene die de actie doet: Teach -> Teacher

Bijwoord of bijvoeglijk naamwoord naar zelfstandig naamwoord:

Met -ness: Happy -> Happinessnd(ness)

That actress seems friendly. - Those people are known for their friendliness.

This is a really sad story. - I saw sadness in her eyes.
