Holy Cow!

In India cows are the kings of the road. All road users wait patiently for them to move out of the way. Want to know why? You will find out in this lesson!

Today we are travelling to India. India was an important colony for Britain and did not become independent until after the Second World War. India is a fascinating colourful country with an ancient civilization.

A festival of colours

India is a fascinating country!

Watch the video in the next slide  and learn all about a very special Hindu festival. It celebrates the start of spring with lots of colours. Afterwards we will have some fun with colours too!

Colours can have meanings or are linked to feelings. What do you think of when you think of the colour Red? Think about signs, symbols, nature, food etc.

Het is erg handig om twee dingen met elkaar te kunnen vergelijken. Ik weet zeker dat je deze vaardigheid elke dag gebruikt. De structuur van de vergelijkende trap in het Engels lijkt op die in het Nederlands. Dit maakt het gemakkelijk om te onthouden wanneer je het wilt gebruiken. Laten we eens kijken hoe we zeggen of schrijven dat iets ‘meer'  is dan iets anders.

Grammatica: Vergelijkende trap in het Engels voor bijvoeglijke naamwoorden  met één lettergreep

Een voorbeeld:

Do you think this sari is long enough?

No, I think you need a longer one. .

Misschien heb je al een idee hoe je vergelijkingen moet maken.

1. Heb je een patroon ontdekt? 

Juist!      Je voegt 'er' toe. 

2. Wat gebeurt er als het woord op 'e' eindigt? 

Juist! Hier hoef je alleen een 'r' toe te voegen. De 'e' staat er immers al!

Voor woorden die eindigen op 'y' geldt een andere regel

We veranderen de 'y' in een 'i' en voegen dan 'er' toe zoals gewoonlijk.
