No, the pilot crashed the plane deliberately

 

2. How did the co-pilot crash the plane.

He locked the other pilot out of the cockpit, he then turned off the autopilot, sending the jetliner down toward the Alps. The pilot banged on the door, but the co-pilot didn’t open.

 

3. How much time passed between the pilot leaving the cockpit and the crash?

4. Why couldn’t the pilot get back into the cockpit?

After 9/11 the planes got a nearly impregnable cockpit door. There are also strict lockdown procedures in case of an emergency. You can enter a code into the code pad to open the door, but even then the pilot on the inside can block the re-entry for five more minutes. 

5. Which safety policy is added in place in the US so that someone can’t just crash the plane by themselves?

The policy is that at least two people have to be present in the cockpit, but this was not the policy of German wings. 

6. Why did nobody suspect that the co-pilot would crash the plane?

He had to pass a psychological test before being able to fly and there were no red flags, so he passed this test.

When do we use the Present Simple and when the Present Continuous?

Present simple

Present continuous

to describe actions that are going on at the moment of speaking

to describe past events in a vivid, dramatic, narrative way

to describe something that is always or usually true, such as general thruths or scientific facts

to talk about people's habits, for things they do or that happen regularly

When a future activity will take place according to a timetable, schedule or programma

to talk about things we have arranged to (with someone) in the (near) future
