Will/Shall + Infinitive
Used for:
  • Predictions (without proof): I think they will win the game.
  • Promises: I will always love you.
  • Offers (in questions: shall): I'll help you carry your bags.
  • Decisions/announcements: The Summer Olympics will take place in August 2021.

Be Going To
to be (am, is, are) + going to + infinitive
  • To describe an intention: I'm going to keep a diary
  • To talk about a future plan: We are both going to study in the USA next summer.
  • To make a prediction about the future based on evidence: Look at those clouds. It's going to rain.

  • Future events that are scheduled according to a timetable:
Hurry up! I don't want to miss any of the game. It starts at 1:00.
The meeting is in the boardroom. It begins at 10:00.
His plane arrives at 6:45.

Present Continuous
                                   to be (am, is, are) + verb + ing

  • Future events that are fixed, planned or definitely decided:
I am visiting my granparents tomorrow.
Next month we are emigrating to Australia.

  • Projecting yourself into the future
By Christmas, I will be speaking fluent Spanish.
  • To guess about future events
He will be coming to the meeting, I guess.
  • Something in the future that takes place for a longer period of time
Lucy will be working for her dad next year.

                                       Will + Have + Past Participle
  • Something that you finish in the future.
In 2025 I will have finished my studies.
By the time you read this, I will have left.


You are projecting yourself to a future time, where you will have finished something

                                 will + have been + verb + ing
  • Just like other continuous tenses, the duration of the action is important. How long something will have been going on before a particular time/event in the future
We will have been cleaning the house all day before she returns.
I will have been studying for my English test for 4 hours when I take a break.
