Learning goals
– You know that the earth consists of a core, a mantle and the earth’s crust.
– You know the earth’s crust consists of different plates.
– You understand how Wegener recognized that the earth’s crust consisted of different moving plates that once were adjoined.
– You understand how plates can move

Slide 3 - Tekstslide

Deze slide heeft geen instructies

Divergent
The plates are moving away from each other.
New plates are formed because of the magma that spills out of the earth
Famous example is the mid-ocean ridge near iceland
convergent
This is the movement in which the tectonic plates move towards each other. Here the plate will either collide unto each other and make mountains or the plate wil dive and make a trench

Subduction or fold mouintains

Slide 4 - Tekstslide

Transform
Here the two plates move next to each other.
Mostly earthquakes.

Slide 12 - Tekstslide

Tijdens deze fase van de les controleer je of leerlingen jouw instructie hebben begrepen d.m.v. een begeleide oefening.

Check for yourself if you understand all the learning goals

On the right you will see all the learning goals we discussed this chapter. Drag them to field you think it belongs.
No!
I don't understand this at all.
I still find this very hard

I am starting to understand
I think I understand this
YES!
I understand it completely

– You understand how plate movements can cause formation of a new section of crust in one spot, while the earth’s crust disappears elsewhere

– You can show in a cross section how convergence can lead to the formation of fold mountains.
– – You understand why the movement of plates can trigger earthquakes.
– You know in which three ways plates can move in relation to each other.
