Plurals = meervoud
In English, we can use nouns in singular and in plural form.
Example:

"I have one dog."
"I have three dogs."

Dog = singular noun
Dogs = plural noun

How do we go from a singular noun --> to a plural noun?

There are 9 rules.

1: Regular nouns 
If the noun is a regular noun --> you add -S.
Examples:

Car --> Cars
Book --> Books
Dog --> Dogs

2: S, CH, SH, X OR Z
If a noun ends with S, CH, SH, X or Z --> you add -ES
Examples:
Bus --> Buses
Match --> Matches
Quiz --> Quizes

3: F or FE
If a noun ends with F or FE --> you remove the F/FE and you add 
-VES
Examples:
Wolf --> Wolves
Life --> Lives
Knife --> Knives

4: VOWEL + Y
If a noun ends with a vowel (klinker) + Y --> you add -S
Examples:

Day --> Days
Key --> Keys
Boy --> Boys

5: CONSONANT + Y
If a noun ends with a consonant (medeklinker) + Y --> You remove the Y and you add -IES
Examples:

City --> Cities
Baby --> Babies
Story --> Stories

6: VOWEL + O
If a noun ends with a Vowel + O --> You add -S
Examples:

Zoo --> Zoos
Radio --> Radios
Video --> Videos

7: CONSONANT + O
If a noun ends with a Consonant + O --> You add -ES
Examples:

Tomato --> Tomatoes
Potato --> Potatoes
Hero --> Heroes
Exceptions (uitzonderingen): 
Photo-->Photos          Piano--> Pianos

8: IRREGULAR NOUNS
If a noun is an irregular noun --> You have to know the plural form by heart. There aren't any rules for them.
Examples:

Man --> Men
Child --> Children
Woman --> Women

9: NO CHANGE
There are also singular nouns that don't change in the plural form. You also have to know them by heart. 
Examples:

Sheep --> Sheep
Fish --> Fish
