Snowflakes on Xylophone
"Now we are going to get out our xylophones. Remember, when we carry our xylophones, we carry with how many hands?"

"The big red bar goes on the ...?"

"And the little green bar goes on the...?"

After students get their xylophones
"So using one finger, I want you to put your finger on sol. What color is sol?"
Dark green
"Use one finger on your other hand and put it on mi. What color is mi?"
Yellow
"Now I want you to play what we just read. Remember, we read 'sol mi sol mi' (instructor remember to sing this!). Use your fingers and your singing voices to practice this. You have 5 seconds."
Students practice playing pattern with fingers while singing.
"Let's try together. Ready and here you sing." (Instructor sings starting pitch)
Students sing and play pattern using fingers.
"So that song was 'Snowflakes.' I want you to sing the song."
Instructor gives starting pitch. Students sing song with words.
"Raise your hands when you hear the pattern we just played."
Instructor gives starting pitch, students sing and raise hands on measures 1-2 and 5-6.
"Sing the song again. This time, I want you to play 'sol mi sol mi' (instructor remember to sing) when you hear that pattern."
Instructor gives starting pitch, students sing song but only plays on measures 1-2 and 5-6.
