  • No entering the classroom without a tutor

Word of the week - Expectations

Part one:

Lesson objectives:

  • Be aware of the classroom expectations within all sessions.

  • Be aware of the key health and safety that must be followed in the salon.

  • Explain how to use a learner review booklet and why this is important within your learning.

  • Watch Demonstration on how to set up your work area to prepare for a shampoo and blow-dry service.

  • List the tools and equipment needed to complete a shampoo and blow-dry service.

How confident do you feel about health and safety in a salon enviroment?

Health & Safety 

- Ensure that your work area is clean and tidy 

- The client is wearing a gown & towel. 

- Ensure all electrical equipment is PAT tested - check the sticker on the wire

- Report any equipment to staff or technician that you think is faulty. 

- Check the hairdryer for a guard on the back 

- Check the temperature of the water on a small section of the head. 

- Any shampoo or product that gets in the eyes must be rinsed with eye wash, report it to a member of staff. 

- Check for allergies

Preparing for a service 

  • Your work area should be set up with all tools, equipment and styling products. 

  • Clients should have the correct PPE on. 

  • You MUST keep your work area tidy throughout the service.

Ensure you think about the following:

  • Posture

  • Checking water temperature.

  • Sectioning

  • Direction of airflow

  • Ensuring client comfort throughout.

Sectioning of the hair 

Before sectioning we recommend 'rough' drying the hair first, this is a quick blast to remove excess water. The hair should be roughly 40-50% dry. 

When we carry out most hairdressing services we section the hair into 4 sections.
