Describing Objects in French

• Learn how to say what things look like, what they are made of, and what they are used for!
  🗣️ “C’est une chaise.” → It’s a chair.

The Basic Structure

• We often start with: C’est + article + noun + adjective
  Examples:
  C’est un truc/une chose rouge. → It’s a red thing.
  C’est une chose ronde. → It’s a round thing.
  💡 Adjectives agree with the noun (gender + number).

Les Couleurs (Colours)

• rouge (red)

• bleu / bleue (blue)

• vert / verte (green)

• noir / noire (black)

• blanc / blanche (white)

• jaune (yellow)

• marron (brown)

• Examples:

• C’est un truc noir.

• C’est une chose rouge.

La taille et la forme (Size and Shape)

• grand / grande → big

• petit / petite → small

• rond / ronde → round

• carré / carrée → square

• long / longue → long

• Examples:

• C’est une boîte carrée.

• C’est un grand chapeau.

Matérial(Material)

• We use en + material

• Examples:

• C’est en bois. → It’s made of wood.

• C’est en plastique. → It’s made of plastic.

• C’est en métal. → It’s made of metal.

• C’est en verre. → It’s made of glass.

À quoi ça sert ? (What is it for?)

• We use C’est pour + verb

• Examples:

• C’est pour écrire. → It’s for writing.

• C’est pour manger. → It’s for eating.

• C’est pour jouer. → It’s for playing.

Full Example

• 🧺 Example:
  C’est une grande boîte en bois marron.
  C’est pour ranger les jouets.
  (It’s a big brown wooden box. It’s for keeping toys.)
