Past simple 
I lived in Utrecht for 4 years. 

Past simple = verleden tijd
iets die in het verleden is gebeurd en afgelopen 

You use time indicators (signaalwoorden) to talk about past:
yesterday, a week ago, last year, in 1991

2. irregular verbs 2e column

Present perfect 
present perfect: 
  • iets is in het verleden gebeurd en nu nog bezig 
I have lived in Utrecht for 4 years. (je woont er nog steeds)
  • iets is in het verleden gebeurd en daar zie je nu het resultaat van 
bijv: Je hebt je been gebroken en je ziet nog de gips.
I've broken my leg.

1. has/have + verb+ed   : He has decided what to eat. 
have/has worked, have/has played, have/has dreamed

2. has/have + irregular verbs 3e column :  He has gone out for dinner.
NL: gaan  ging      gegaan
EN: go       went     gone
