par 2.2 periodic table

par 2.2 Periodic table
You will learn
- that molecules consist of atoms (assignment 17, 21 and 28);
- the most important kinds of atoms and their symbols (assignment 18 and 22);
- how the periodic table is structured (assignment 19,23 to 25, 27 and 30);
- that metals do not consist of molecules, but only of atoms (assignment 20, 26 and 29).

Periodic table
The numbered rows in the periodic table are called periods. The numbered columns are called groups. If substances consist of only one kind of atom, those substances have similar properties if the kinds of atoms they consist of are in the same group. Therefore, a number of groups have a special name, which you should know:
group 1: alkali metals
group 2: alkaline earth metals
group 17: halogens
group 18: noble gases
