Present Simple
  • Used to state universal, timeless truths (always / never)
  • For example, The sun always rises in the east
  • Used to  indicate habits  (every Sunday/week/month)
  • For example, We go to church every Sunday.

Present Continuous
  • Used for things that are happening at the moment of speaking
  • For example, I am teaching the students in the classroom.
  • Used for temporary or new habits (longer period of time = present simple)
  • He's eating a lot these days
  •  Definite future arrangements (= you have a plan and are sure that it will happen)
  • For example, I'm leaving at three.

Present Perfect 
  • A state of affairs is described as being relative to the present time
  • In other words, something that started in the past but is still relevant in the present
  • For example, I have lived in the Netherlands for over thirty-five years.
  • Look whether you can use the word 'al' in your translation.
  • For example, Ik woon al meer dan vijfendertig jaar in Nederlands.

  • Is used to show that a completed action took place at a specific time in the past
  • For example, I walked to school yesterday. 
  • I finished work, walked to the beach, and found a nice place to swim.
  • Regular verbs: [verb] + [ed]
  • Irregular verbs: study! You can find a list in Google Classroom.

  • Is used to show that an ongoing past action was happening at a specific moment of interruption
  • Or, that two ongoing actions were happening at the same time
  • For example, While John was sleeping last night, someone stole his car.
