Ionic Bonds (compounds)
Properties of Ionic Bonds
  • Made of charged ions
  • e- transfer between  Metals and Nonmetals
  • When compound is formed, the overall charge is ZERO. 

  • Exothermic Reaction -       Exo=out  Thermic=heat. Heat is released during this reaction. 
  • Conduct electricity when melted or dissolved
  • Brittle
  • High Boiling / Melting Point

Properties of Covalent Bonds
  • Sharing of e- between atoms
  • No charges
  • Bonds between                 Nonmetals and Nonmetals Nonmetals and Metalloids
  • Weaker bonds than Ionic Bond

  • Will NOT conduct electricity 
  • Mostly in Liquid & Gas state
  • When a solid it is a soft solids
  • Low boiling & melting Point
