Leesstrategieën

To prepare for reading, you:

– look at the title and pictures to find out the subject (what the text is about)

– think about what you already know about the subject

– look at the exercise first so you know what to pay attention to in the text

Leesstrategieën

Sometimes you can guess the meaning of a difficult word. See if:

– the word or part of the word looks like a Dutch word you know;

news > nieuws

tonight > vannacht

– the word looks like a word you know in another language, like French;

grand = grande (FR) = groot, groots

– you know part of the word in English. unhappy > ongelukkig

Use a dictionary if you are not sure.

Leesstrategieën

You scan a text to find specific information. To scan a text, you look for:

– numbers

– names

– words that are bold, in italics, or underlined

– symbols (£, $, €, or *)

You explore a text to get a general idea of the text. To explore a text, you:

– look at the title and subheadings

– look at the pictures

– look at the source (website, magazine, email)

– read the introduction (the first paragraph)

You skim a text to quickly find out the most important information. To skim a text, you:

– explore the text (read the title, subheadings and introduction, and look at the pictures and the source)

– read the first and last sentence of each paragraph

1. Ga in de online methode voor Engels.

2. In de linkerkolom scroll je helemaal naar beneden.

4. Oefen met de verschillende niveaus (A1, A2, B1)
