Adjectives 

Says something about:

a person/an animal/a thing

(a noun)

Adverbs 

Says something about:

an action
adjective + ly

- verb

- adverb

- the teacher works silently

- the classroom is extremely silent

- the students work actively

- the students work very actively

The teacher works silently.

silently says something about 'works'

works is a verb

The classroom is extremely silent.

extremely says something about silent

silent says something about the classroom

Something to remember:

Special adverbs which change the meaning of the word

hard - hardly

high - highly

late - lately
