Relative clauses

Na deze les.. weet ik hoe ik extra informatie over iets of iemand kan geven in een zin.  

What is a relative clause?

Je gebruikt deze zinnen als je extra informatie wil geven over iets of iemand.

--> Extra zinnetjes die je kan toevoegen voor extra informatie

The boy who brought the cakes.

The dress that I wore to the party last week.

I bought a new car that is very fast.

How to make a relative clause.. 

IMPORTANT:

WHO: bij mensen

WHICH: bij dieren en dingen

THAT: bij personen, dieren en dingen (maar niet na een comma!)

WHOM: bij mensen na een voorzetsel

WHOSE: bij bezit (van wie/wiens)

Is de bijzin noodzakelijk om de zin te begrijpen?

Onmisbare informatie:

• Staat in het midden/einde van de zin
• Je gebruikt geen komma's!

He is the doctor who helped my grandmother.

This is the airport where I lost my bag.

Geeft de bijzin alleen maar extra informatie?

Extra informatie:

• Staat in het midden/einde van de zin
• Begint en eindigt met een komma
• Je mag GEEN "that" in plaats van "which"gebruiken
  

The Times, which is published in London, is a daily newspaper.

The Times is a daily newspaper.
