At the end of today's lesson you can:
1. Recognise and use the grammar of Unit 5 (Comparative and superlative adverbs)
2. Recognise when irregular verbs are used in the grammar of Unit 5
3. Practice with pronunciation of the vocabulary of Unit 5

Adjectives and adverbs
What are they?

Adjectives (Bijvoegelijk naamwoord)

Adjectives are used to describe nouns and use the base forms

Example: The band was bad at playing their music




Adverbs (Bijwoord)

Adverbs are used to describe verbs and are (usually) formed by adding -ly to words

Example: The band played their music badly

Comparatives and superlatives
These are forms of adverbs.
What other forms of adverbs do you know (in Dutch)?

Comparative adverbs (Vergelijkende trap)

Comparatives are used to compare two things

Superlative adverbs (Overtreffende trap)

Superlatives are used to compare one thing with two or more things

Comparatives examples
We use more when the adverbs ends in -ly
- My brother talks more quickly than me.

The opposite of more is less
- My brother talks less quickly than me.

A few words change entirely  when they are irregulars
- My sister speaks French better than my mom

Superlatives examples
We use most when the adverbs ends in -ly
- My dad speaks the most slowly in our family.

The opposite of most is least
- Kevin did his exam the least carefully.

- Jason ran the fastest, so he won the race.
