Understanding Past Simple

The past simple tense describes actions completed in the past. Key words: yesterday, last week, in 2020.

Regular Verb Formation

Regular verbs in past simple end in '-ed'. E.g., 'play' becomes 'played'.

Irregular Verb Formation

Irregular verbs do not follow a set pattern. E.g., 'go' becomes 'went'.

Positive Sentences

Subject + past simple verb. E.g., 'She danced.' 'We ate.'

Negative Sentences

Subject + did not + base verb. 

E.g., 'He did not walk.'

Question Formation

Did + subject + base verb? 

E.g., 'Did they visit?'
