Different kinds of Phrasal Verbs
Phrasal verbs consist of different categories:
  • Seperable
  • Non-seperable
  • With two particles

Slide 6 - Tekstslide

Seperable Phrasal verbs
With seperable phrasal verbs, the verb and particle can be apart OR together.

Example:
"They've called the meeting off."
OR
"They've called off the meeting."

Slide 7 - Tekstslide

Non-Seperable Phrasal Verbs
Some phrasal verbs CANNOT be seperated.
example:
"Who looks after the baby when you're at work?"
OR
"The caterpillar turned into a beautiful butterfly."

You can't seperate the verb and preposition in these sentences!

Slide 8 - Tekstslide

Phrasal Verbs with two particles
Phrasal Verbs with two particles are also inseparable. (A particle is a noun/verb/adverb). These phrasal verbs consist of 2 particles
Example:
"Let's get rid of these old cards?" (rid of = the particles)
OR
"I'm really looking forward to it." (forward to = the particles)
