Indirect speech
Je gebruikt indirected speech als je wilt vertellen wat iemand anders heeft gezegd:
Jason: "I'm reading a very good book."
Jason said (that) he was reading a very good book. 

Tony: "My mum isn't home yet."
Tony said (that) his mum wasn't home yet.

De present simple wordt indirect the past simple

"I don't like shopping", says Mary. 
Mary said she didn't like shopping. 

Isobel: "What is the homework for History?"
Isobel asked what the homework for History was

De present continuous wordt de past continuous: 

He said (that )   ->     Was/were + ww-ing
