Why do we use the
NATO spelling alphabet?

Lesson Goals:

• The student can explain why the NATO spelling alphabet is important
• The student can translate the letters spelled (using the NATO spelling alphabet) by their classmate into words
• The student can make their classmate understand which words they mean by spelling them(using the NATO spelling alphabet). 

Which ship do you mean?

- Form pairs

- One of you picks a ship from the list below.

- Spell the type of ship using the NATO spelling alphabet. (use the list in the ACP 125 page 3-2 and 3-3 )

- The partner listens, lets you finish spelling, and then confirms which ship you spelled.

- Switch turns, spell at least 3 ship types each.

- Done? Try playing the game with ship names. You can find the names in the ACP 113.
