The Golden Age of Islam

After the death of prophet Muhammad in 632 CE,  Islam spread across the Middle East. 

Science, art, trade and technology was highly developed here: the Golden Age of Islam

Baghdad was the centre of developments:

• House of Wisdom
• Advanced sanitation
• High living standards

The Crusades

The succes of the Golden Age was put under pressure by the crusades (kruistochten)

Odered by the Pope, Christians took over the holy city of Jerusalem in the 11th century.

A major positive consequence of the crusades was the exchange of knowledge about:
