Example analysis 1

The Rime of the Ancient Mariner is a long strophic poem by Samuel Taylor Coleridge from the influential collection of Lyrical Ballads that he and William Wordsworth published in 1798. Coleridge also included the poem in his 1817 collection Sibylline Leaves. The Ancient Mariner appeared in the first edition of "Lyrical Ballads" in 1798. Significant changes were made in its second edition, in 1800. 

Example analysis 2

The rime of the ancient mariner is called a lyrical ballad. A ballad is a kind of verse, often set to music. It’s a narrative poem, it can be sang for the public.

Often, the ballad has a sudden beginning.  The language that they use is pretty simple, but the writer uses words and phrases multiple times (repetition) and uses figurative words.

Example analysis 3

The structure of the poem is a ballad. The rhyme structure is metrical. In the poem there are many different kinds of poetic devices but the main ones are, repetition, metaphors and similes, imagery, allusion, personification and euphemism. The main theme of the poem is sin and grief because the mariner commits a huge sin when he kills an albatross, which is one of god’s beloved. 

Poetic devices are essentially tools that a poet uses to create rhythm, enhance a poem's meaning.

Examples: Simile, Metaphor, Alliteration

Use a simile to describe your best friend.
Example : Radha is as intelligent as Einstein.

The baby was like an octopus, grabbing at all the cans on the shelve.
