2.7 - Single-celled organisms

Slide 1 - Tekstslide

Single-celled organisms
Organisms that consist of 1 cell -> very small

All life characteristics:
Breathing; To feed; Excrete; Observe; To move; Reproduction; To grow.

Examples: amoeba and paramecium (pantoffeldiertje)

Slide 2 - Tekstslide

Amoeba
a=no/none, moebe=form

Movement of the amoeba
by means of pseudopod
(schijnvoetjes)

Slide 3 - Tekstslide

Amoeba
Pseudopod  moves towards food (bacterium).
Bacteria are enclosed and absorbed into the cell in a vesicle: food vacuole.
Bacterial digestion takes place here -> digested substances move to cytoplasm.
Undigested substances -> Away via cell membrane.

Paramecium
Het Pantoffeldiertje

Slide 7 - Tekstslide

Paramecium
Cilia on cell membrane make wavy movement in water -> movement
Cilia move food towards the cell mouth pore.
From there into food vacuole
undigested remains are removed via anal pore.
