Goals for this class

You have an idea about what geography is. 

You understand why switching scale levels is important. 

Geography

It is the study of the earth. 

What happens within the earth and on the earth's surface. 

Region

It's about taking a look at regions. 

That region is a piece of the earth's surface, called a landscape. 

we have: Natural and man made landscapes. 

Describe and explain

When you describe a region, you should ask yourself:

These 2 factors help you explain things that happen on our planet.

There are 4 types: 
- Economic factors 
- Cultural factors
- Demographic factors
- Political factors

Focus on

Take a look at figure 1.5 on page 12. 

Scale level

Local: Village, neighbourhood, city

Regional: Province, part of country

National: Country
International: Different countries, continent
Global: Different continents, world

Switching scale levels

Scale level is important to use to weigh things up. 

A highway is a good thing when you take a look on national or international scale level. 

Taking a look on regional or local scale level you can see people that are living next to the highway that won't like it. 
(because of the noise etc.)
