Let's look at the following sentence:

The cat sat on the mat.

  1. the subject (het onderwerp) comes at the start:
    The cat is 11 years old.
    He walks to school.

  2. the verb(s) (werkwoord) comes after the subject:
    She works every day.
    John likes Mary.

We can find out what the object is when we make the sentence a question:
Where does he walk to? - school
Who does John like? - Mary

Place goes at the end of the sentence, but before time:
