- Italy is in southern Europe. - It looks like a high-heeled boot! - Neighbouring countries: France, Switzerland, Austria, Slovenia. - Surrounded by seas: Mediterranean, Adriatic, Tyrrhenian, Ionian.

Capital City and Major Cities

- Capital city: Rome (famous for ancient ruins) - Other big cities: Milan, Naples, Venice, Florence, Turin.

Vatican City is the smallest country in the world, and it is located inside the city of Rome, Italy. It is the home of the Pope, who is the leader of the Catholic Church. Even though it is very small, Vatican City has its own flag, stamps, and guards called the Swiss Guard. One of its most famous buildings is St Peter’s Basilica, which is one of the largest churches in the world. Millions of people visit Vatican City every year.

- The Alps and Apennines are Italy’s main mountains. - The longest river: Po River. - Famous volcanoes: Mount Vesuvius, Mount Etna.
