''After the magnificent performance, your god or goddess certainly wants to be the protector of your polis! Life in your polis is now truly taking shape. People are coming from near and far to live in the city. As the polis grows much larger, it's time to consider how your city-state will be governed!''

2.1

• 1. Choose the form of government you will use for your polis: oligarchy, monarchy, aristocracy, tyranny, or democracy. Clearly explain why you choose this form of government in a minimum of 150 words. 

Oligarchy

• Rule by a small group of the richest people in the city state.  

Monarchy

• Rule by one or two kings.
• The king has absolute power.

Aristocracy

• Rule by a group of nobles from aristocratic families.
• 30-500 nobles. 

Tyranny

• Rule by a tyrant = someone who  illegally seized all the power (often by using an army).
• There were good and bad tyrants.

Democracy

• The people have the power.
• Citizens have the right to vote.
• Voting was done by using shards.

• 3. To govern your polis effectively, it is essential that you establish laws. Create a minimum of 5 laws that every resident must abide by. These laws reflect what you deem important in a country. Ensure that these laws are fair and align with the Greek world.

• 4. Despite your undoubtedly good governance, there are still individuals who dare to break the laws. Describe what you would do if someone is suspected of breaking the law. How do you determine their guilt? How do you decide on the punishment?
