Ambrogio Borgognone c. 1470s – 1523/1524) was an Italian painter of the Renaissance period active in and near Milan.

God was most important.
People tried to please God at all costs.
People readily believed and accepted everything they were told by the Church.
Man was at the centre of interest
People explained events only as God's work
Scholars and scientists took a great interest in and looked more closely at  men and nature 
People believed in witchcraft, magic, ghosts, superstition and dragons.
People wanted to please themselves and enjoy a comfortable life on earth. 
People considered diseases such as the plague as God’s punishment for their ill-led lives.
Struck by diseases as the plague, people wanted to find how to treat and to cure them  scientifically 
People questioned the teachings and statements of the church and refused to believe everything they were told
People wanted to find scientific reasons in order to be able to explain events
