Adverbs of manner
Look at the text again, how do children do their housework?
  • Suzy makes her bed quickly

Adjective: describes a noun  (= zelfstandig naamwoord)
Adverb: describes a verb (=werkwoord)

Peter is slow, Peter does things slowly
Anne is loud, Anne speaks loudly

How?
  • bijvoegelijk naamwoord + lyloudly, slowly
  • als een woord eindigt op -y (happy), verander je deze in -i + ly (happily)
  • Sommige adverbs zijn hetzelfde als adjectives: hard, fast, right, wrong, early, late
  • Adverb for good is well

We use can to talk about rules that other people make for us
We use can to ask for and give permission.
  • Affirmative: Can + infinitive
I can go to bed whenever I want (It's OK/allowed)
  • Negative: Can't (cannot) + infinitive
I can't use the computer for more than 30 minutes (It's NOT OK/allowed)
  • Question: Can + subject + infinitive
Can I go to the party tomorrow? (Is it OK/allowed?)

We use have to to say something is/isn't necessary. 
  • Affirmative: Have to / Has to + infinitive
My brother and I have to help my mom today.
Denise has to do the dishes
  • Negative: Don't / Doesn't have to + infinitive
I don't have to clean my room every week.
She doesn't have to work today
  • Question: Do / Does + subject + have to + infinitive
Do David and Neil have to be here?
Does Mr Newman have to buy a new phone?

Must has the same meaning as have to, but is less common
  • Affirmative: Must + infinitive
I must go now
  • Negative Mustn't (Must not) + infinitive
You mustn't tell lies
  • Question: Must + subject + infinitive

Mustn't VS Don't / Doesn't have to
Mustn't and Don't / Doesn't have to have different meanings.

Mustn't = DON'T DO IT!
You mustn't leave candles burning

Don't / Doesn't have to = You can but it isn't necessary
You don't have to know this yet
