Vocabulary p. 7, 14, 24
Having a wide range of vocabulary is important
because it helps you say what you mean clearly.

It makes reading, writing, and speaking easier.
When you know more words, you can understand
texts and conversations better.

It also helps you feel more confident when you
talk to others and use the right words in
different situations.

Grammar past simple
Als iets in het verleden gebeurde, gebruik je de past simple. Regelmatige werkwoorden in de past simple eindigen op -ed. Onregelmatige werkwoorden in de past simple zijn allemaal verschillend. You have to learn them by heart.

Je gebruikt de past simple als het duidelijk over het verleden gaat. Dat kun je zien aan woorden in de zin die duidelijk een moment in het verleden aangeven, zoals when I was a child, in the Middle Ages en yesterday in de zinnen hieronder.
  • When I was a child, I really liked knights.
  • In the Middle Ages, people died at a young age.
  • She officially got her coat of arms yesterday.

Slide 20 - Tekstslide

Grammar present perfect
Je gebruikt de present perfect om te praten over iets dat in het verleden is begonnen en nu nog steeds belangrijk is, of wanneer het resultaat in het heden zichtbaar is.

De vorm is:
have/has + past participle (voltooid deelwoord)

Voorbeelden:

  • I have visited London twice.
  • She has just finished her homework.
  • We have never seen a real castle.

Woorden die vaak bij de present perfect horen: ever, never, just, already, yet, since, for, recently, so far.

“My name is X, and I love learning about people who made a difference. Johan de Witt is special to me because he was from my own country, the Netherlands, and he showed what real leadership and courage mean.”

Slide 26 - Tekstslide

The introduction
“Johan de Witt lived in the seventeenth century, during what we call the Dutch Golden Age. He was the leader of the country for many years and helped make the Netherlands strong and successful in trade and politics.”
“In this vlog, I’ll tell you who Johan de Witt was, what he believed in, and what we can still learn from him today. I think his story teaches us about teamwork, honesty, and standing up for your ideas — even when it’s hard.”

Slide 27 - Tekstslide

The introduction
“So, let’s travel back in time to the 1600s and discover how Johan de Witt became one of the greatest leaders in Dutch history.”
