Grammar 2: Gerunds and to + infinitive

verb + ing (gerund) is een werkwoord (verb) die gebruikt wordt als een zelfstandig naamwoord (noun) en eindigt altijd in -ing. Het wordt vaak gebruikt in combinatie met een specifiek werkwoord: to (dis)like, to love, to miss, to avoid. 

Going to parties can be fun.

Soms komt to + infinitive na specifieke werkwoorden. Bijvoorbeeld: to hope, to ask, to refuse, to expect

to + infinitive kan soms worden gebruikt als (object) van een zin.

I asked him to leave right away.

Please remind your brother to wash his hands after he uses the restroom.

to + infinitive kan ook worden gebruikt na veel bijvoegelijke naamwoorden. (adjectives) 

It is not easy to do two things at once.
