Learning Objective
At the end of this lesson you will know some key English words, the alphabet, and how to use them in simple sentences.
What Is the Alphabet?
The alphabet has letters that make up words. There are 26 letters in English.
A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, N, O, P, Q, R, S, T, U, V, W, X, Y, Z (Upper case)
a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h, i, j, k, l, m, n, o, p, q, r, s, t, u, v, w, x, y, z (lower case)
These letters are used to form words and sentences in the English language.
Big and Small Letters
Each letter has a big (uppercase) and small (lowercase) version.
A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, N, O, P, Q, R, S, T, U, V, W, X, Y, Z (uppercase)

Letter Sounds
Letters make sounds. For example, 'A' says 'a' like in 'apple'.
Sounds of 'C'
'C' makes a 'k' sound like in 'cat'.
Vowels and Consonants
Vowels are A, E, I, O, U. All other letters are consonants.
Every word has a vowel
Simple Words
We use letters to make words like 'boy', 'cat', and 'dog'.
Finding Words
Can you find the word 'sun' in this sentence: The sun is yellow?
Making Sentences
'The boy' or 'The dog'

Reading Simple Sentences
Try reading: The cat is on the mat.
Try using your finger to help you stay on the right word
Words About You
Words like 'I', 'my', and 'me' are about yourself.
Using Actions
Words like 'run', 'jump', and 'sit' show actions.
Question Words
'Who', 'What', 'Where', and 'Why' help us ask questions.
Naming Things
We can name things around us: book, chair, ball.
Saying Hello
We can greet people by saying 'Hello' or 'Hi'.
Thank You and Please
Use 'thank you' and 'please' to be polite.
Talking About Feelings
Words like 'happy', 'sad', and 'angry' tell how we feel.
Colours in English
Words like 'red', 'blue', and 'green' name colours.
Favourite Things
We can talk about our favourite toy or food in English.
